Is Tamil Nadu not in the ‘Republic’ of India?
Periyar declared that not only the day of independence but also the day of republic is a day of mourning for the Tamils. The Constitution of India states that the Federation of States is ‘India’ but in practice there is no such thing.
The Republic Day parade takes place with a modern weapons processions that conveys the country’s armed strength to other countries. But sovereign states recognized by ‘Republic’ law are insulted.
The Union Government decided to hold a rally titled ‘India’s Freedom Struggle – 75’ in front of the ‘Achievements’ of Independent India. The Government of Tamil Nadu designed a vehicle to identify those who fought against the East India Company and the British Government in Tamil Nadu for the Republic Day Rally. This was considered by a panel of Union Ministry of Defense who doesnot know history. That what need to say.
The panel has met four times since last September. Tamil Nadu government officials who attended the three meetings accepted the changes forced by the ‘expert panel’ and designed the vehicles. An announcement has been made that Tamil Nadu government vehicles will not be allowed without inviting Tamil Nadu government officials to the fourth meeting.
VOC, Bharathiar, Velu Nachiyar and Marudu brothers were selected as Tamil Nadu freedom fighters. Despite the question of whether Bharti is a freedom fighter, it is not the right approach to look at the issue now. The primary view is that the Union Brahmanical regime has insulted the sovereignty of Tamil Nadu and the self-respect of the people of Tamil Nadu. This move is seriously hurting the feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote a letter to reconsider this to the Union Government.
Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state rally have also been boycotted. Only BJP ruling Karnataka state government has been selected from the south. The Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Kerala have written letters to the Prime Minister regretting the denial of permission to the West Bengal buses carrying Netaji and Ravindranath Tagore and the vehicles carrying Kerala social reformer Narayanaguru correspondingly. Former chief ministers Siddaramaiah and Kumaraswamy from the state of Karnataka have condemned for being insulted Narayana Guru in favor of Kerala.
The Uniion Government has explained on their side that Republic Day rallies have already taken place without the presence of several state vehicles, including Tamil Nadu, and that this should not be painted politically. The issue can only be approached in the context of the fact that Modi-led BJP party has been discriminating between the their ruling states and the opposition ruling states since coming to power. The attitude of the Union government towards the non BJP party ruling states was neither honest nor moral. No one will accept the fact that the Union government, which has unabashedly discriminated against state finance allocations, Covid preventive injection allocations and disaster relief allocations in the opposition-ruling states, justifies itself by giving ‘practical’ reasons on the issue.
If there is Republic Day parade, then the contribution of all states to it is the basis for federalism. Shouldn’t the vehicles that highlight the ‘achievements’ of the Union government and the vehicles that symbolize ‘military strength’ be reduced to this? Without states there can be no such thing as a Union Government. only States have people. Union government has no people. It is a pity that these decisions are made by ‘experts’ security forces who do not know the history. “VOC who did the shipping business; Foreigners do not know who Velu Nachiyar is, ”are the comments of experts panel group in arrogance.
If foreigners are to be known, they will have to adorn themselves with images of businessmen who leased public sector companies under the Modi regime in India. How can they recognize the VOC, which was sentenced to 40 years in prison and died in poverty, who also espoused the ‘indigenous’ policy?
Tamils now need to understand the depth and vision of Periyar’s statement that Republic Day was a day of mourning for Tamils.
