Editorial – 7.5% internal allocation: The false face of the BJP
The BJP that supports the ‘NEET’ examinations, along with so called Sacred thread wearing ones who claim to be born in the head of “Brahma” who takes part in televised debates under the guise of “social activists” and “political critics” has repeatedly put forward an argument that they supports the quota for 7.5 percent of government school students. They also claim that their National leader ,Natta is the one who come up with Quota for Government School Students. This is a green lie.
The AIADMK rules has passed 7.5 percent internal allocation. When the bill was passed in the Assembly and sent for approval to the governor Panwarilal Purohit, he kept aside and laid down. There were news that he imposed a condition that the implementation of the 10 percent EWS reservation for the upper caste poor against the approval of 7.5 percent. The Views put forward that there was no need to go to the Governor for Law approval if the Government of Tamil Nadu issued GO same as Kalaingar who issued GO for Rural Students Reservation. Based on this ADMK embarked on efforts to issue GO. On knowing this, Governor Purohit, hastily approved the draft.
Not only that; When Hon’ble Narayanasamy was the Chief Minister of Puducherry, the Congress government passed a resolution in the Assembly providing 10 per cent quota for government school students (NEET passed) and sent it to Governor Kiranbedi for approval. The governor sent it to the Union Government, with a note of saying that she did not agree. Subbulakshmi, a student from Pondicherry, has filed a case in the Chennai High Court alleging that the allocation law is being delayed in this situation. The case came up for hearing before Judge Pugazhendi.
In that case, Ravi Ranjan, a senior official in the Ministry of Home Affairs, wrote the Union Government’s comments and forwarded it to the Additional Solicitor General R.Sankaranarayanan, filed in the court. The petition, filed on Jan. 23, 2021, categorically denied that the quotas for Government school students .
The Union government has said the Union Territory of Puduchery has no power to legislate a law and cannot intervene as a state because education is on the Concurrent list. Apart from these find the phrases as is in the petition filed by the Union Government:
“The introduction of ‘NEET’ in 2016 had been for merit based medical admission. NEET by providing uniform national standards follow the Principle of one ntion one merit. Thus a separate quota for the students of government schools, as proposed by the union territory cabinet would dilute the merit of the NEET examination..”
The Union government has said that accepting the Puducherry government’s decision when many other states made similar demands would be contrary to the purpose of the ‘NEET’ examination, which was introduced
It also said that the 7.5 percent internal quota brought by the Tamil Nadu government was not accepted by the Union government. The reply stated that the Government of Tamil Nadu had made a 7.5 percent allocation without informing the Union Government. The Government of Tamil Nadu advocate argued the Union Government had been belittling the 7.5% reservation adopted in Tamilnadu (Source: ‘Times of India’ daily).
After burying so many facts, Annamalai, Party Chief of BJP Tamil Nadu and his entourage have been talking in support of the 7.5 per cent reservation and claiming that it was a plan hatched in the brain of his National party leader.
NEET Examination came up with the idea of ‘ONE COUNTRY – ONE QUALIFICATION’. The AIADMK former Chief Minister Edappadi Palanichamy who opposed it earlier, now supports ONE COUNTRY- ONE ELECTORAL SYSTEM. On that basis, he says assembly elections should be held in Tamil Nadu next year. This is how those who seek to rule with ‘power and corruption’ without any principles will act as opportunists caught in contradictions!
